"I'm going to have this many babies." She held up all ten fingers.
I replied, "That's a lot of babies."
"Yes, I'm going to have five girl babies and five boy babies."
"You're going to have to come up with a lot of names for that many babies."
"No, actually I won't because I'm going to name all the girl babies . . ." She paused to think. "Calla! And I'm going to name all the boy babies . . . Darla!"
"That will be convenient," I said, "If want to call all the girls you can just say,
Callas!"
We were sitting on the ground outdoors. There were a couple other kids within earshot. A boy named Arthur chimed in, "I think you should name all the boys Arthur."
"Okay, I'll name all the boys Arthur."
A boy with a sister named Cecilia suggested, "I think you should name all the girls Cecelia."
"Okay, the girls will be named Cecelia, but their nicknames will be Nina. And the boys' nicknames will be Arjun."
I nodded, "That sounds complicated."
"Not for me."
"No, I imagine not. You're the mom."
"That's right, but you know I'm going to have to find a dad. You need a dad to make a baby. I think I'll pick Sebi," the name of a boy who was passing by us at the moment.
Hearing his name, he stopped, "What?"
"I need you to be the dad of my babies, okay?"
"Sure."
"You'll just have to give me some sperm so I can hatch the eggs."
"Sure," he answered again before racing off.
She seemed satisfied. "I'm not going to have my babies when I'm a kid. I'm going to wait until I'm older, maybe one hundred."
"Fair enough," I answered.
"And you can be the grandpa . . . If you're not dead."
