I drive through a tunnel nearly every day, but it bears little in common with these.
The ones that show how to get to places you didn't know you wanted to go,
And to people you didn't know you wanted to meet,
Right here in this place you thought you had already mastered.
Just looking into these tunnels is to have your familiar world taken apart and put back together,
Abstracting it into a crazy town populated by the ghosts of your friends.
Where the shapes and lights and colors show you new ways to look at your world.
Mastering this strange place, then, becomes your purpose.
Figuring out that this connects to that,
And this takes you there,
And that just in case, there is always a way out,
Or a friendly face,
Or a cowgirl hat surprise.
LOVE the tunnels!
ReplyDeleteTunnels are so exciting to play in aren't they? I think it's the element of surprise as to who you might meet or when it might lead the children love. Sherry and I have a black, soft fabric tunnel which is about 5 or 6 meters long, we pull out on rainy days. Some children are a little tentative at first as being fabric the tunnel lays flat until you crawl through it and you can't see the person in front of you because it's so dark but once they get in it they have a ball. I hope every one is providing such fun for their children Tom.
