A couple months ago I posted here about fly swatter painting, sharing several photos of the aftermath.
Paint on the floors . . .
. . . doors . . .
. . . ceiling, etc.
I was chided in some quarters for not making this an outdoor activity. To be honest it had never occurred to me. Or rather, since I think of our classroom as a garage, and to me the garage is just a covered extension of the outdoors, we were in fact doing this outdoors. Still, as I watched parents struggle to scrub the spatters from the walls during our recent year-end all-hands-on-deck cleaning session, I decided I might want to give the actual outdoors a try.
I set a couple easels up under our new canopy because of the threat of rain.
Let's just say that fly swatters, paint, and an outdoor policy that there is nothing that can't be painted, lead to this:
Many children went home with paint covered bottoms
Clearly, this isn't the first time for this wall to be a canvas.
This box was a target for swatters, before becoming in impromptu
finger painting station.
Yes, the new canopy was christened.
Windows? Check!
And if you think the facilities took a hit, you should have seen the kids.
To all of you who felt this would make a better outdoor project I only have one thing to say: Thanks a lot!
Ohhhhhhh mannnnnnn.....hope you used tempera.
ReplyDeleteYou know...maybe inside is a better idea....
ReplyDeleteHow fun is that? :)
ReplyDeleteI am almost positive the moms that had to wash the painty clothes said those exact same words! Thanks a lot!
Man Oh Man, cannot even begin to imagine...
ReplyDeleteAnd, a VERY Happy Fathers Day to YOU!
I don't even know what to say! Completely out of control, absurd and endearing all wrapped into one!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious. It looks like the after photos of a truly out of control party-gone-bad :) I would have loved to be there.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the kids from Woodland Park and the kids from Kinma should ever get together - nothing would be safe from a coat of paint.
Oh my good golly gosh ... I'm speechless!
ReplyDeleteDonna :) :)
Ha! Ha! Ha! Well, at least the kids had fun.
ReplyDeleteYes - I'm wondering whether you played background tracks such as "Wild thing" by the Troggs or "Wild Child" by Iggy Pop.
ReplyDeleteI think this is healthy. Every now and then it's good to let the boundaries go. OK the place will have needed a lot of tidying but knowing the fun involved...was it worth it?
Hey Tom,
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me to try out this activity. I did mine outside the first time I tried, and it didn't end so messy, even though we did end up walking in the paint in our rubber boots! Mind you, it was me and one kid! Here's how mine turned out (I put a big roll of paper on the deck):
