It seems that "teaching" is not something you do, but it is who you are- you bring your whole self to teaching. I hope to do this with my head start kids. Thanks for your ideas and perspective - please keep writing.

elleellenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-42041912901564937622010-08-29T08:50:25.089-07:002010-08-29T08:50:25.089-07:00I cried and then prayed for the walking man. I loved how you talked about the dialogue going on inside our head. And finally after you put one foot in front of the other long enough that chatter eventually quiets down. We were talking about needs for curriculum and teaching methods for kids, mostly grade school kids. After a day or so of discussions about all kinds of things--music, video, activities, stories, etc.--one of them summed it up this way: "Of course, in the end, it all comes down to relationships." Thanks for reminding me of that, Tom. Sometimes, in the midst of doing, we can lose sight of that.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11397525011462974857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-52787549881619110572010-08-28T09:32:21.809-07:002010-08-28T09:32:21.809-07:00"Relationships are all there is"
I thin..."Relationships are all there is"

I think Seattle is an interesting city. I've only been there a couple of times, each for a week long trip, but the variety of spaces and places is amazing and I've ended up doing a lot of walking and cycling (on an old child's bike - pretty rough).

It also struck me too, how many homeless people do live in Seattle as my husband and I or just me by myself would go walkabout. It is the real face of a hidden part of our society. I always know that I could so easily be that person and count my blessings for the life of privilege I have.

And yes, it relates to our work with children. We are educating them for a world which does not yet exist and issues and matters we cannot envisage. They will cope with this primarily through developing loving positive relationships, tolerance and understanding. So yes, we need to hug and hold each other right from the start. It my be the only thing that props us up.Juliet Robertsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07035975039896986525noreply@blogger.com
