What an amazing class! I came over from reading a post about civil disobedience. That post really made me realize what it was I had been feeling to be wrong about the "No child left behind act." That is such an ironic title for the act since, in effect, it forces children to jump through hoops in order to protect the image of the school/teachers. What needs to be "measured" is the amount of innovation occurring in a school, how many of the students can come up with practical solutions to difficult problems. How much collaboration is occurring? If someone is behind, how many people care enough to help? Great job Teacher Tom. I wish my 5 year old daughter was close enough to attend your class (we live in Utah). She carried it with her all day, and when people asked her about it, she very matter-of-factly explained that it was in celebration of Martin Luther King and how we should be fair to everyone.
