Typically, I'll say something like, "Would you like to play with that tomorrow?" and them make sure to set up the environment to include it. When they arrive, I always make a point of reminding them that they asked for it -- I want them to know that I'm responding to them even if it isn't exactly on their schedule.

As for things needed for projects, I always try to accommodate those requests.

I've never had an "avalanche." =)Teacher Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14606781724784785338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-14362237204425706582014-11-26T14:25:12.847-08:002014-11-26T14:25:12.847-08:00Do you ever have children who ask for something el...Do you ever have children who ask for something else to be brought out, either because it's something they're really interested in, or because they need it to complete some project that they're involved in? How do you respond to that? Does it lead to an avalanche of kids asking for things to be brought out, or do you find yourself wanting or needing to say no, but not able to explain it to the kids? I really enjoyed this blog post. I connected with it I think because I am also a parent constontalinty going back and forth on what is the right way to parent my son. Everyone is an expert and everyone has an opinion and they all contradict each other. Your post explained very well that you need a little bit from each side to have a child that self disciplines and that learns freely. Thank you for posting!
