It was a rural centre in a farming community so it wasn't too far out of the norm for these children. In my centre we can't do this sadly! Once we wanted to dissect fish but as we are in the middle of such a multi cultural community, there were several families who were against it for religious and cultural reasons.

Thanks for sharing!

Elise, kiwiteacherblog.blogspot.co.nzKiwi Teacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05072693160691889299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-46278853050317811322013-04-09T17:47:57.196-07:002013-04-09T17:47:57.196-07:00Same as Ms. Hart. As soon as there is any interest in marine life, I am always ready to leave out the "Squid dissection invitation".

The kids love playing with the beaks, too!

We usually write with the pen and ink as well, but one year we made Father's Day Cards with them. Memorable activity, for sure.

Mixed age [3-5] nature-inspired Reggio school in NorCal.elle m.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-56012745611373352682013-04-09T14:33:00.759-07:002013-04-09T14:33:00.759-07:00We did this at my school with 4-year-olds. After they cut their squids up, my boss cleaned them and breaded and fried them for snack. Most kids tasted it, and many really liked it!Juliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17861547614990893012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-60862225099158758452013-04-09T14:31:10.198-07:002013-04-09T14:31:10.198-07:00We did this with 4-year-olds at my school. After the kids cut up their squid, my boss breaded and cooked them for a snack.
