When my pre school children start wrestling, and every year it happins, I whip out one of Josh's video's and have them watch it. We discuss what is going on in the match and the uniform called a siglet is worn.We discuss the referee and the mats that are used. Then I have a good friend in the high school coaching staff that visits our classroom and discuss thing s with them. After the discussion we all go over to his gym, a short walk away, and begin learning all there is to know about the sport. I feel this teaches the children social skills, taking turns , following rules, and large moter skills. Some of my past children have now joined the little leauge wrestling team. I am proud to have
reached out past the norm and gave them real world experences, who knows if we don't step out there who will? I have said all of that to tell you you are doing the children in your care a great service, keep up the great job:)> Steffiesteffie1https://www.blogger.com/profile/08142676656943375959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-86294787446768512272009-06-19T16:02:48.667-07:002009-06-19T16:02:48.667-07:00So far, so good. I suppose I could have tried to enforce a rule against wrestling, but my first instinct is usually to try to find a way to let the kids do what they want as long as we can make it safe.

This is why I'm so glad I teach in a cooperative preschool. I can't imagine persuading a traditional administrator, who will invariably hear "fighting" when I say "wrestling". The parents ARE the administrators and since they're right there in the classroom to see what's happening -- and even take part in managing it -- they get to see that we're keeping the kids safe while allowing them a little roughhousing with their friends.

This year, two different teachers from other schools called to ask me about using wrestling as part of our curriculum, so I don't think we're alone any longer!Teacher Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14606781724784785338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-6444585955545980502009-06-19T15:34:22.774-07:002009-06-19T15:34:22.774-07:00very interesting concept. I can not imagine the idea being approved by my administrator, or the way it would be twisted by other adults. did you encounter any disapproval from adults?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-2146426733406878922009-06-19T13:34:56.671-07:002009-06-19T13:34:56.671-07:00Love this post!!!Love this post!!!jaimeephttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05164531070018243746noreply@blogger.com
