As someone who has worked with all developmental levels of preschoolers I can appreciate how important it is to allow them to asses risk for themselves. As a current toddler teacher with a toddler son, I can see how quickly people try to get in the way. I see people who will readily yell at a steady child to sit down when standing on top of a slide. Those same people will then place unsteady toddlers on climbing structures that they are completely unable to climb on their own. Respect for their innate sense of self preservation and desire for physical exploration is essential!
