As a Montessori assistant, I've often wondered about the best way to get the older group to leave the simple activities (for a 6 yr. old) on the shelves for the new children (2.5-3 yr. olds) who will be challenged by them. This has been exceedingly difficult to resolve because often the only way seems to be to impose my will and tell them they may not use some of the toys (which generally only come out at the beginning of the year while the children are getting acclimated and getting the preliminary lessons of the classroom). I really like the no touch line... adding that to the bag of tricks!Reneehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08103135062793085458noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-16434921279313684502011-01-29T10:49:35.376-08:002011-01-29T10:49:35.376-08:00I think mentioning the length of the discussion pr...I think mentioning the length of the discussion pretty much covers the rambling bits. And how great that you gave them the time. They sound like, despite the ramblings, they were very focused and getting so much out of it. And the toys will be there tomorrow and the next day and the next. The discussion, on the other hand, might never have taken place without the patience of a teacher wiling to lead them through it.Barbara Zaborowskinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-64332354723870885142011-01-29T08:43:09.413-08:002011-01-29T08:43:09.413-08:00@Deborah . . . I usually try very hard to honor children's words by quoting them exactly as they're spoken. In this case, I'm sort of cobbling together the conversation as best I can. Also, when I read back through it, I felt like the post left the impression that this conversation somehow followed a straight line from point A to point B. It didn't. We rambled all over the place between the two points! =)Teacher Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14606781724784785338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-35546330534367081112011-01-29T08:27:53.221-08:002011-01-29T08:27:53.221-08:00Oh - I love all the toys!
