Grandma is famous for her cinnamon rolls, and she'd invited us over to teach me how to bake them (she doesn't follow a recipe, just feels her way through it). She gave Jules his own pan and lump of dough, let him sit and watch us cook, stick his fingers in ours, too, lick and smush and squeeze. With our help he rolled his dough out, smeared it with butter and healthy dashes of the salt and pepper he'd found on the table. Grandma was wonderful, ooohing and aaaaaahing over Jules's creativity. She popped that little pan into the oven with all the others and served him his "cinnamon roll" (and one of "ours") with the biggest, proudest smile. He ate both.kristi @ sproutsinthekitchenhttp://sproutsinthekitchen.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-6924484840551872812009-10-19T15:03:31.085-07:002009-10-19T15:03:31.085-07:00ooh, I like that idea - not sure how it would work...ooh, I like that idea - not sure how it would work with all the kids though - but pandemonium is always fun!Monkey's Mamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01437699085199871699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-78364634478653025612009-10-19T07:04:58.964-07:002009-10-19T07:04:58.964-07:00I feel like that most days, where I need to get so...I feel like that most days, where I need to get something done and my son has designs all his own. We had a bit of a conflict today over something that in my mind HAD to be done (write a birthday card for a party we were shortly headed to) that was just not on the agenda for Mister Man. It got done, but no one was happy.... And maybe we could have found a different way to get there.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07803503583347758969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-27993535923272358352009-10-18T13:30:06.756-07:002009-10-18T13:30:06.756-07:00My favorite small group activity was one where I c...My favorite small group activity was one where I cut out various pictures of zoo animals from magazines, then taped them to the bottom of the table when there was a break in the action during free play. When it was small group time, I'd cover the table with a sheet that hung to the floor, then have the children go one at a time under the table with a flashlight and tell us what they found. I'd keep a running list of the animals and then I'd ask them, "Where are we?" The zoo! I did the same thing with pictures of bathroom items and playground equipment as well.Teacher Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14606781724784785338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-55400187147129180022009-10-18T10:39:52.869-07:002009-10-18T10:39:52.869-07:00My most successful small group last year was when ...My most successful small group last year was when I had a bunch of leftover plastic builder hats from Logan's birthday. So I brought those in with stickers and 2 tool boxes full of tools. So those with building interest went crazy with the tools and the table and those that didn't went crazy with the stickers decorating their hats. It was fun to see how all the kids took it and ran. I miss small group this year. Our school's small group is an activity zone during free play instead of separating into small groups. So I still get to bring in something - but it's for everyone throughout freeplay. My first one is the 28th and still figuring out what to do. Wanted to do egg carton spiders but somebody did that last week - any ideas??Monkey's Mamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01437699085199871699noreply@blogger.com
