I ...This is a great article and so pertinent to me. I was at a meeting with parents of my class of 2s just the other night, and we were talking about curriculum in a play-centered program. We had just viewed a short video of the children, and I was asking them "where is the math in the activity we just observed?" One father expressed his doubt that there was any math involved and indeed whether "math" is a subject that needs to be addressed in a 2s class. That led to a discussion of the inherent math concepts in so much of the normal play activities in which children engage. Thanks for stating it so eloquently--I'm going to send a link to this post to my parents!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-77134872604329971642012-11-09T07:54:07.311-08:002012-11-09T07:54:07.311-08:00Sorry Tom I think I just left blank comments becau...Sorry Tom I think I just left blank comments because of the captcha thingo - so much for genius!thatsunusualhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09165438451078321778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15932919.post-9260816241055711942012-11-09T07:52:54.415-08:002012-11-09T07:52:54.415-08:00I've never been great at formal maths but I kn...I've never been great at formal maths but I know that I am a brilliant mathematician because when someone throws something to me I know the precise angle and velocity at which to move in order to possess the object. When I ride a bike, I have the amazing capacity to understand physics. Now juggling....phew gravity, speed, angles, distance, timing, hand eye coordination, super fast calculations for spacial awareness. In fact - fully automatic mathematical genius. That's me!thatsunusualhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09165438451078321778noreply@blogger.com
